Yes you can, however only a limited amount of entries will be available on the day and a late entry fee will apply.
Are Swim Caps compulsory?
Yes they are. They will be supplied as part of your entry fee.
Are wetsuits permitted in this event?
Yes they are. Wetsuits are not typically allowed in many ocean swimming events however they are a great buoyancy aid that offer assistance to inexperienced or less confident ocean swimmers.
The decision to wear a wetsuit / speed suit / tri suit is entirely up to you. All swimmers are eligible for category placings / prizes no matter which swimsuit they are wearing.
I haven’t done a lot of swimming in the ocean – is this event achievable for less experienced swimmers?
Swimming in the ocean is more challenging than a length in your local pool, but we have taken a number of measures and designed the course to be achievable for all abilities and fitness levels.
If you are new to ocean swimming, enter the ‘Mates Wave’ so you have other first time ocean swimmers around you.
Where & When is Competitor Check-in?
Check-in will take place in the Event Site at Kirra Beach from 8am. Check the Event Program closer to the event for final times and locations.
Are there time restrictions to complete the event?
Yes there is. The following time restrictions will be enforced to ensure the safety of all competitors. Any swimmer who has not reached the final turn, by the times listed below, will be assisted by water safety personnel. However, we love to see every swimmer cross the finish line, so we prefer not to intervene if a swimmer is close to this marker and is still swimming comfortably.
Are wave starts used?
Yes they are. A mass start is a lot of fun, but we want to ensure that those around you on the start line are of a similar ability. You can select to start in one of the groups below.
I have a friend / family member that I’d like to swim with – is that possible?
Yes it is – enter the Mates Wave! If you don’t select the ‘Mates Wave’, you will start in your Age Group.
Please refer to the Event Schedule on the event home page for timings.
