In 2018 we have two new ocean swims – the 2.5km A2M (Alexandra Headland to Mooloolaba) and the 5.0km Mooloolaba Grand Prix. The course map below illustrates the layout and direction.
The Mooloolaba Mile begins at Mooloolaba’s South-Eastern end (The Spit) and follows an M shaped path north towards the finish line near the Mooloolaba SLSC and famous Loo-with-a-view.
Half Mile & 800m Junior Giants swimmers will join the Mooloolaba Mile course at the halfway mark, swim out behind the breakers to the final turn then back to the beach for a sprint to the finish.
300m Junior Giants swimmers will start a short distance from the Finish Area and complete one circuit of a 300m course. Your course may be altered on event day to ensure the best possible conditions for all swimmers.
The 5.0km Paddle is open to SUP Boards (Stand Up Paddle), paddle boards (prone paddle boards / lifesaving boards / racing mals) and surf skis.
Each category will start in the sheltered waters at The Spit, however a split finish will be used for each category. Paddlers in the ‘Open Wave’ will finish at the Mooloolaba Beach Event Site (ocean swims finish) and the ‘Mates Wave’ paddlers will return to The Spit.
The final course layout will be confirmed on event day.
As with any event in the ocean, we are at the mercy of the weather gods and therefore late course changes may be necessary. In the event of extreme weather we will endeavor to offer a shortened, alternative course so please do not assume that the event is cancelled completely if the forecast is less than ideal.
We will post updates on our Facebook page leading up to the event if extreme weather is expected.
If events cannot be staged on Saturday Feb 17 due to extreme weather:
