In 2019 we have two point-to-point long course ocean swims over two days – the 2.5km A2M (Alexandra Headland to Mooloolaba) and the 1.6km Mooloolaba Mile.
The 2.5km A2M starts in front of the Alexandra Headland SLSC and follows the coast and headland around to Mooloolaba Beach. This is a popular training swim for many Sunshine Coast locals, but is an exposed section of water which will be challenging for inexperienced swimmers.
The Mooloolaba Mile begins at Mooloolaba’s South-Eastern end (The Spit) and follows an M shaped path north towards the finish line near the Mooloolaba SLSC and famous Loo-with-a-view.
Half Mile swimmers will join the Mooloolaba Mile course at the halfway mark, swim out behind the breakers to the final turn then back to the beach for a sprint to the finish.
300m Junior Giants swimmers will start a short distance from the Finish Area and complete one circuit of a 300m course. Your course may be altered on event day to ensure the best possible conditions for all swimmers.
As with any event in the ocean, we are at the mercy of the weather gods and therefore late course changes may be necessary. In the event of extreme weather we will endeavor to offer a shortened, alternative course so please do not assume that the event is cancelled completely if the forecast is less than ideal.
We will post updates on our Facebook page leading up to the event if extreme weather is expected.
If ocean swim events cannot be staged on Saturday due to extreme weather, but Sunday conditions are favourable, all 2.5km Alex to Mooloolaba Ocean Swim entries will be transferred to the Mooloolaba Mile (Sunday).
If events cannot be held on either day, the entire program will be postponed to an alternative date.
If there are any significant changes to the venue or program due to weather, we will notify you as early as possible on the email address you have supplied during the entry process.
