The St Kilda Mile was launched in 2014 and is staged at one of Australia’s most vibrant beaches, St Kilda in Melbourne. In 2017, the event moves from December to March 25.
The main event, One Mile, is an iconic distance around the globe in open water swimming and is achievable for any ability. Other events include a Half Mile short course, the Junior Giants Series for kids aged 8 – 16 years and the 3.8km Marathon – a chance for seasoned swimmers to push their limits.
Whether it’s for training or a new personal challenge, join Series Ambassador Michael Klim on the start line and dive into the first weekend of summer!
1 mile (1.6km) is one of the most popular open water distances around the globe and is well within reach for beginner and novice ocean swimmers. The course provides a point-to-point swim finishing alongside the iconic St Kilda Pier.
Test your mettle in the ultimate open water challenge – a 3.8km Ironman distance swim. This is the perfect hit-out for aspiring Ironman competitors or anyone looking to push beyond the traditional ocean swimming distances.
The 800m short course option is an ideal introduction to the open water for less experienced ocean swimmers. It is also an ideal stepping stone before conquering the Mile in years to come!
Junior Giants (800m)
The Junior Giants Series is a great new opportunity for kids aged 8 – 16 years to compete with other swimmers their own age.
We also encourage family and friends to share the experience and swim the course alongside the kids.
The 800m event will use the same course format as the 800m Short Course event starting on St Kilda Beach.
Every participant receives a free event t-shirt and opportunity for a signing session with Olympic legend, Michael Klim and other special guests.
All World Series Swims will have some great prizes up for grabs from Speedo Australia and elite swimmers will also have the opportunity to compete for cash prizes (first male & female) in nominated events.
Presentations on event day will include the following overall prizes in each event (male & female):
