Event Update: 8:03am (AEST) February 14
After consultation with Gold Coast City Council and our Surf Life Saving partners, we regret to advise that the Gold Coast Summer Swims event scheduled for Sunday, February 16, has been cancelled.
All Gold Coast Beaches are currently closed and are expected to remain closed throughout the weekend.
The swell is expected to drop by Sunday, however swell is not our main concern on this occasion. Water quality is a serious concern due to torrential rain and flash flooding in nearby river catchments. There is a lot of debris in the water which is a serious hazard for swimmers and surfers – this will take more than two days to improve.
We realise cancellations are disappointing, but hope you understand that weather events are beyond our control – we can only make decisions based on what Mother Nature throws at us.
We cannot offer refunds in the event of a cancellation, but we can offer a credit into an upcoming event, for either the Mooloolaba Swim Festival (Mar 7-8), or the Cooly Classic (Apr 26). We will contact you next week with further information on how to claim your credit.
If you are planning to travel this weekend, please stay safe on the roads, especially in areas experiencing heavy rainfall and flash flooding.
