Event UpdateHi Everyone, Well, what a devastating morning it was for everyone involved, especially having to abandon the events while you were all standing on the start line, but we are very glad we did. Our priority is always keeping you safe out in the water and to do that, our Surf Life Saving teams need to be able to perform their role safely. Conditions deteriorated very quickly in the surf before the 5.0km start commenced, we then had over 50 rescues in 20 minutes, for a 5.0km field of only 100 swimmers. Our Kirra Surf Life Saving team did extremely well to manage the situation and we can’t thank them enough. We are very glad that we did not have the full field of 1500 swimmers out in the water, it would have been quite a different outcome. Once the event day arrives, we are fully committed to delivering the event, so all of our support services and resources have been paid for in full. We will need a few days to determine what exactly we can offer you in these circumstances, as we have never had to postpone or cancel an event on the day itself, so this is unprecedented for us. We will come back to you all this week with a further update.
