If you’re traveling from outside Queensland, then boat hire is an option. It is, however, an expensive option for Solo swimmers who need a boat and skipper – this option may be more viable for teams who can absorb the hire costs together, or swimmers who have their own skipper and can simply ‘dry hire’ the boat.
2020 is the inaugural event, so boat hire companies may not be familiar with the event. It’s important that you discuss the course with them and select a boat that is capable of an offshore voyage. Some hire companies may only have inshore vessels, for use in the Gold Coast Broadwater.
Remember, you need a Support Boat AND Skipper, so please discuss the skipper requirements with them as well.
Bringing your own qualified Skipper will certainly help reduce the overall costs.
Below are local hire companies who have suitable boats and are familiar with the event. Please advise them if you DO NOT need a skipper, as they will assume you require a boat and skipper for the day.
Please contact them directly to discuss rates and requirements.

Surf Club IRBs (Inflatable Rescue Boats) are approved for use by Solo and Tandem Solo swimmers (NOT Duos or Teams), so Surf Clubs throughout the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast may be able to assist.
The Southport Spit Boat Ramps are the recommended ramps to launch your Support Boats, given their proximity to Surfers Paradise where the event will finish. They also have ample parking space.
The voyage from Southport to the Start Assembly Area off Coolangatta Beach is approx 30km, so please consider this distance and time required to make this voyage if you are launching at Southport.
It is also possible to enter via other Boat Ramps closer to Coolangatta, then have a your boat trailer driven to Southport to meet your skipper.
