If you’re traveling from outside Queensland, then finding a local boat might be a convenient option to consider.
There are hire companies throughout the Gold Coast, Brisbane and Moreton Bay regions that may be able to assist.
2020 is the inaugural event, so boat hire companies may not be familiar with the event. They will, however, be familiar with the course locations, so it’s important that you discuss the course with them and select a boat that is capable of an offshore voyage. Some hire companies may only have inshore vessels, for use in the Gold Coast Broadwater.
We’ll publish a list below shortly of companies who have confirmed they have boats available and are suitable for the event.
Remember, you need a Support Boat AND Skipper. A popular option will be to bring a friend or family member with you who is a competent Skipper, then source a boat locally.
Things to consider
The Southport Spit Boat Ramps are the recommended ramps to launch your Support Boats, given their proximity to Surfers Paradise where the event will finish. They also have ample parking space.
The voyage from Southport to the Start Assembly Area off Coolangatta Beach is approx 30km, so please consider this distance and time required to make this voyage if you are launching at Southport.
Support Boats need to be in position 30 minutes before their swimmers Wave Start. (Solo Wave: 7:00am)
It is also possible to enter via other Boat Ramps closer to Coolangatta, then have a your boat trailer driven to Southport to meet your skipper.
