Cooly Classic – FAQs
How do I enter this event?
Entries for all 2025 Cooly Classic events are available online from October 14, 2024. Simply navigate your way to the page “ENTER” and follow the instructions.
Are there any age restrictions on entry?
Yes there are. There is no maximum age restriction, however competitors in any event must be over the following ages:
- 1000m Junior Giants – 10 years & older
- 2km Cooly Classic – 12 years & older
- 3km Long Course – 12 years & older
- 5km Marathon – 12 years & older
Competitors under the age of 18 must also have a parent or guardian present on event day.
How do I know my entry is confirmed?
Once you have completed your online entry form you will receive an automatic confirmation email. Please keep this as proof of entry.
If you do not receive this email please contact the Event Director at info@worldseriesswims.com.au
Will I receive any other information before the event?
Yes you will. A comprehensive Competitor Briefing will be emailed to all competitors one week prior to the event and will also be available for download at www.worldseriesswims.com.au. The briefing will detail all the information you’ll need to take part including the event schedule, information on the course and support services as well as local Gold Coast information and site maps.
Can I enter this event on event day?
In 2025 we will NOT have day entries available. Online entries will close at 9am on April 12.
Are wetsuits permitted in this event?
Yes they are. Wetsuits are not typically allowed in many ocean swimming events, however they are a great buoyancy aid that offer assistance to inexperienced or less confident ocean swimmers.
Wetsuits are permitted for swimmers entering into the Age Group or Mates Waves
Wetsuits are not permitted for swimmers entering into the Elite Wave who are competing for overall prizes and prizemoney.
I haven’t done a lot of swimming in the ocean – is this event achievable for less experienced swimmers?
Most definitely. Each event in the World Series Swims has options to cater for all abilities.
There is no hiding the fact that ocean swimming is more challenging than a length in your local pool, but we have taken a number of measures and designed the courses to be challenging but achievable for all abilities and fitness levels.
Where & When is Pack Collection?
Pack Collection will take place at the Event Site, Kirra Surf Club.
One of my children is swimming in the Junior Giants event – can I swim with them for support?
Yes you can, but we do need you to complete an entry form as well.
If you are already swimming in an event (1km, 2km, 3km, 5km), there’s no need to enter again. If you will only be swimming with your child in the 300m or 1000m event, just complete an entry for that event so you can swim alongside them.
Is there a time restriction to complete the event?
Yes there is. The following time restrictions will be enforced to ensure the safety of all competitors. Any swimmer yet to round the final turn will be assisted by water safety personnel. However, we do love to see every swimmer cross the finish line, so we prefer not to intervene if a swimmer is within 200m of the beach finish and is still swimming comfortably.
- 2.0km – 1 hour 15 minutes
- 3.0km – 1 hour 45 minutes
- 5.0km – 2 hours
Are wave starts used?
Yes they are. A mass start is a lot of fun, but we want to ensure that those around you on the start line are of a similar ability. Three wave group options are available.
- Elite Wave
- Age Group Waves (Automatic unless Elite is selected)
- Mates Wave
**Wave starts do not apply for Junior Giants event. Wave groups may also be split into male and female fields, depending on entry levels in each event.
