The Mooloolaba Mile Ocean Swim
Sunday March 23, 2025 | Mooloolaba Beach, Sunshine Coast
In 2024 the Mooloolaba Mile introduced new courses, new distances and a whole new look!
Our event site moved to Mooloolaba Spit and our program is now packed with more distances, all designed for you to push your limits in a safe environment.
The multi-lap course means you can set your sights higher, but check your progress in the shallow water as you prepare for your next lap.
The Start & Finish line are located at Mooloolaba Spit, a sheltered bay with easy access in and out of the water – it’s one of nature’s great open water arenas.
Every year, we’ll be adding new distances and aiming higher.
.The Events
Mooloolaba Mile (1.6km)
The main event!
The Mooloolaba Mile (1.6km) was first held in 2010 and is one of the most popular open water distances around the globe for a reason – it’s well within reach for beginners and a great time trial for experienced swimmers.
Your course is one full lap of the triangle course, starting and finishing in the sheltered waters of Mooloolaba Spit.
For our elites, it’s a sprint. For most, it’s an ideal goal that you can knock over with limited training under your belt.
Mooloolaba Half Mile (800m)
This might just be our favourite event!
From our Junior Giants testing themselves in the open water, to groups of friends battling it out for bragging rights, the Mooloolaba Half Mile (800m) can be achieved with limited training and is loads of fun.
The Junior Giants event is a great opportunity for kids aged 10 – 15 years to compete with other swimmers their own age.
Mooloolaba 3.0
The Mooloolaba 3.0 is a popular distance and a great step up from shorter swims.
This long course swim involves two laps of our new triangle course, starting and finishing in the sheltered waters of Mooloolaba Spit.
Mooloolaba 4.5
One of the new additions for 2024, the Mooloolaba 4.5 is a stepping stone event. Step up and make this your end goal for the 2024 Summer, or use it to prepare for marathon swims that lie ahead.
This long course swim involves three laps of our new triangle course, starting and finishing in the sheltered waters of Mooloolaba Spit.
Mooloolaba 6.0
This is the big one and another new addition for 2024 – a 6.0km marathon distance swim.
It’s a distance that we know will be popular, as many of you have now conquered 5.0km and are setting your sights on 10km. This is an opportunity to push beyond 5.0km in a safe, sheltered setting where you can check your progress with every lap – no paddlers or support boats needed!
The Mooloolaba 6.0 will be contested by aspiring marathon swimmers and some of Australia’s most talented pool and open water swimmers.
Prizes
This year the presentations will be held in the Finish Area as soon as our finishers cross the line.
Prizes will be presented for our overall place-getters (3, 2, 1) in every event. Age Group prizes will be posted to winners once results are finalised
Please note, prizes are awarded based on our live finish line times. Some results may still need to be adjusted, due to last minute category changes by swimmers.
If you cannot collect your prize on event day, a postage fee applies if you need us to mail it to you.
